Failed to convert image to outlines?

I am trying to load a picture to cut and I get the message "failed to convert image to outlines". Can anyone help me or tell me what I am doing wrong?

If it is an .svg, take it into Inkscape and select it all and go to Path combine, and save again....I think...help anyone else, to confirm this please.

It's a logo of a friends business. She has sent me the image and wants to see if I can cut it for her. It's in jpeg and gif.

See if you can darken it by opening in a photo program like Windows Live Photo, and use the black and white change process. Then perhaps you can get a trace on it.

You can not just load a .jpg...you have to use the 'TRACE'. If you need to know more there are tutorials on the homepage or ask more questions as you go along.
