Can someone tell me why some fonts/dingbats I download do not go into SCAL...and how I can get them there? Thank you so much!

Please help me! I followed all the steps to trace and save a file in inkscape so i could open it in scal, but it won't work! It says unable to open the project file. I am going nuts. I just had to re-download all these programs because my hard drive died....and now it seems like I can't do anything ...
