making layers

I'm new. Just got SCAL 2 days ago and my cricut is on the way. I've watched the youtube videos and am still confused about layering. I've imported an SVG and broken it apart. I want to make it into seperate layers. Can SCAL make layers or do I need to use inkscape to make them. I know if the layers are already made SCAL will see them, but will it let me make my own? If so where can I watch? TIA

SCAL can now break apart svg, scut, and fonts. All you need to do if what you are working on is all one layer is either ungroup or break it apart (both in the Object menu), select what you want on your new layer, control G (to group it, not necessary but useful), control X, click on the new layer button in the Layer window, Control V. Do this for each layer you want to create. Remember that all visible layers on one page will cut, so be sure to hide any layers you don't want to cut. HTH

You would need to use layers. You can create layers in either Inkscape or SCAL2, and then hide the layer by clicking on the eye next to the layer name to close the eye and hide the layer.
