I'll put this is as both a wish list item and then on the bugs page as well.

If you create a line (not an enclosed shape, just a line) in Inskcape, it looks fine in SCAL, previews fine in SCAL, and then when you go and cut it, it joins the two ends of the line to make an enclosed shape.

Would be really nice if SCAL could also cut lines (and not only enclosed shapes). Would be very handy for certain types of projects (e.g., popup cards!).

I agree this would be great to have. In the meantime you can work around this like this. Create your open path in Inkscape, lets call it AB. Duplicate it to make path CD. overlay one on top of the other and join A to C and B to D with the node tools. This creates a closed path that cuts the path twice. Not ideal, but prevents the stray lines that otherwise get cut.

My work-around is the use the Path>Stroke to Path command in INK. I create the line and make it as thin as I want, select it and then use Path>Stroke to Path to create the path. If you make the line really thin, and I do that before I convert it, you have the same effect as an open path.

I use Ink also for just about all designing. It's good to hear about the open cut lines option, aka Path stroke to path. It works wonderfully in Inkscape .46 and cuts through the SCAL 1. program.

Duh, yea, I use stroke to path all the time. Not sure why I had a brain lapse and gave the more complicated solution. Thanks, Granny for coming to the rescue. Just make sure you use a hairline stroke and it will produce the same results as my complicated method. Also, if I am drawing straight lines I use the 3 click method. Click at start, click at end, double click at start to produce a closed path straight line.

I have used both methods. Both have advantages and disadvantages. Both will work, but it would be much better to be able to cut open shapes (pretty please?).
