Help with svg being too large to put on blog

Today I made a svg file and it was too large to download on the SCAL blog. question?? 
Was it because the jpg was too big before I made it into a bmp in Inkscap:?:
I did try to resize it and save it again but it wouldn't change the size of the file. I thought I had made larger files and put them here but must not have.
I'm really stuck on this. Guess I'm not as computer savy as I thought
Any help on this one
