Can you tell me please how you separate the colors of a jpeg like that. I DL the file and there was a brown portion and a black portion. My question is how to get the two colors separated.

The two colors are already separated. What you do it this:

1. Import the .svg file into SCAL
2. Size it to what you want
3. On you SCAL 'virtual mat' you can 'see' where the black and the brown colors will be.
4. Place your black and brown paper on your mat in the same locations that you see on the 'virtual mat'.
5. Cut

One cut cuts out both colors at the same time.

In the image below, you can see where the .svg file will cut on the mat. Place your paper in relation to this cut. In this sample I used grey and pink to indicate the placement of your black and brown paper.

Thank you for your reply. I was actually wondering how you get the colors of a jpg separated in inkscape. Is that easy for you to explain?

Thanks.

Once I get my shape like I want it, I use Path>Break Apart. That will separate into different part.
