Printing out an entire word

Instead of printing out one letter at a time is there a way to print out a word so it is all connected. Thanks.
The way I know how to do it is by "welding" the letters. This way you can "ungroup" them and then select each individual letter and place it close enough to the letter beside it so as it touches (even if just a fraction of an inch). This will allow you to print out the word connected together. I hope that makes sense.
