Craft Edge

Anyone out there try to use SCAL under linux/wine. Im running Ubuntu 9.04. I've been able to use the software, import .svg / fonts. However I cant actually cut. My Cricut Exp shows up in my list of usb devices (its actually an FTDI usb to serial device) and I can see the device at /dev/ttyUSB0 but cant do anything with it. I tried to cat the .svg file to that same device without luck. Any thoughts? Also, has anyone tried to run SCAL in a WinXP VirtualBox session?

I know this is a few years old, but did you ever find a solution? I'm trying to get ubuntu 13.10 to work with SCAL and my uscutter MH721. So far I got SCAL to work, except it can't connect to the cutter.
