Craft Edge

previously i have been successful transfering pdf to svg and then cutting with scal- it worked! made some awesome glass etchings, but now a month later i can't get it. imported pdf, changed view to outline- get redbox. i have tried object to path as well as trace bitmap. when the window shows for trace bitmap nothing is there. i have tried selecting and just saving it and opening in scal and nothing is there. I have looked at tutorials and forums but am so frustrated that i am about to scream. it is not a complicated design

also while doing this scal is saying it is in demo mode. argh!

It sounds like you have a pdf that doesn't have vectors. I would guess that you need to ungroup the image before you trace it. Use Control A, then look at the message bar at the bottom of the Inkscape window. If it lists "Group" then that is your problem. Ungroup until there are no more groups listed (either right click and ungroup, or from the menu Object/Ungroup), then select your image, and trace it. HTH
