Portrait or landscape??

Please help me understand why in SCAL 2 (just got this week) I open and design on a screen that looks like a piece of paper. I send it to the Cricut and it cuts sideways starting on the top right corner. I see that is the "default" but I tried to use the Portrait button and load the paper and when I send the file it still went and started cuttin on the right - I cut the mat!!!

I just am confused that what I see on the screen (layout) is not the way it cuts - is that true??

I am very new but this seems strange! thanks!!

Bumping this up. I'm wasting a whole lot of paper due to my inability to understand this one issue. Can someone please help me get it thru my head & understand where the Cricut is going to cut in relation to my view of the SCAL screen? I've figured a lot out on my own over the last couple of weeks, but for some reason this is tripping me up.. wasting my time and paper :? Many Thanks!

In SCAL1, the left edge of the virtual mat is the side of the mat you put into the Cricut. In SCAL2 you can rotate the mat. If you choose "portrait" the top edge of the virtual mat is the edge you feed into the Cricut. It's just like when you print something. Both versions of SCAL have an arrow on the virtual mat to show which edge goes into the Cricut. HTH

It's in the SCAL2 Document window. You should see it when you first open SCAL or when nothing is selected on your virtual mat. HTH
