There is a wonderful site called Cutting Time. Carolyn, the designer, has some very nice print tutorials for text and shapes that are really easy to follow. She uses Inkscape the most widely used software for DIYers who want to create for the Cricut/SCAL group. If you haven't downloaded it yet that is a first step. Download the most current production version here:

http://www.inkscape.org/download/

You can find Cutting Time here: http://cuttingtime.blogspot.com/

I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

I just added a post to my blog about using Inkscape and line art to create svg files for paper piecing here.

If you want to make a digi stamp, you will need to stop at step 8. Then select just the traced Path and export a png. PNG files have transparent backgrounds so that they can be layered over other images. See my post here for a tut on using Inkscape to export a png. http://forums.surecutsalot.com/viewtopi ... 02&p=25874
