Hi

I have seen lots of people talking about the sizzix pop up cake and I thought I would have a go making one.
I got my inspiration from here
http://cp.c-ij.com/en/contents/3205/c00015/index.html
Pop up technique from here
http://extremecards.blogspot.com/2009/0 ... on-22.html
and of course here
http://www.sizzix.com/product/1373
and here
http://karenburniston.typepad.com/i_am_ ... 56025.html

I suggest making it with bassil and for the edge of the cake some lighter weight paper.
Rather than tape I used glue to stick it all together.
I have also included fold lines to make it easier to assemble
More teirs could be added by resizing my svg

I look forward to see some of your cakes that you make. I am sure you can decorate them better than this bloke:)

Enjoy

Craig

Thank you Craig!!

I will work on this when I have plenty of time! I've done other pop-ups and it has taken me quite a bit of time and do-overs!!
Did you enclose the instructions on how to make it, or do we go to the other sites to get them?

Thanks for sharing.

Carmen

BTW, I still haven't cut the blind justice file - I've been putting it off; perhaps tomorrow and then I will share pics with you.

HI Carmen

I have not done any instructions but if you look at the extreme Cards site my assembly is very similar to the instruction there
http://extremecards.blogspot.com/2009/0 ... on-22.html

And kind of similiar to these while the diffrerence of no center support going through the layers. The instructions should help though

Hope these help.

:)

You want MORE!!! :)

Sorry I don't
If you have a look at the extreme Cards link i have provided it wouldn't be too hard to make one.
Just a smaller circle with two smaller box supports.
Give it a go

Alternatively if you know how to use inkscape just resize my 2nd teir smaller. delete the score lines and fold at the height you want the 3rd teir.

Cheers

Craig

I like the long strips on the sides of the tiers so much better than the little tabs I used. I think they will give much more PULL!

See mine finished, here:

Here's a question...I'm thinking your strips go down, then all the way across the base card to the center fold, and and then up and attach to the underside of the cake layer, across the cake layer, and then overlap at the side (making a square--just like the flat tabletop )? That, too, seems much easier than the center I-beam construction favored by Hiroko (of the Canon site).

I swore off this design but now I think I might make it again. Awesome.

I chose this method for ease of assembly and also the added strength it offered. You will notice I have included score lines where to bend the strips.
I have seen people talking about the sizzix cake and saying it needs re-enforcing in the centre.

I have been working out the kinks in this design over the last few weeks. Starting on Sunday I'll be posting a multi-part series called "Building a Better Pop Up Cake Card".
