Purchased SVGs won't open
When I purchased some SVGs, I downloaded them to my desktop, then unzipped them to my desktop. When I try to open them, it says Windows can't tell which program created the file so Windows can't open the file. It gives me the option to click "Use internet to determine which program created the file." I tried that and it still says it can't open the file. So.......how can I get windows vista to open the files? The latest files are from vinyldesigner and all the file names of the alphabet I bought start with 2. Does that have anything to do with it? How can I fix it? Please help! Thanks! Sonya

Re: Purchased SVGs won't open
Thanks for your reply! No, I don't have Inkscape. I haven't had SCAL too long. I've been able to import and use some SVG's, but some I can't get to open. I can't figure out what the difference is. I wanted to make a project tonight and I can't get the files open to use them. Any ideas? I probably will eventually download Inkscape, but I can't even get the hang of SCAL yet!
Any ideas how to get the files open? Thanks! Sonya

Re: Purchased SVGs won't open
Unsure what's going on. It could be because of the files being zipped and they are trying to find a program to use the. Since you can open in Inkscape and only import in SCAL, the unzipped open option doesn't know what to do. Inkscape is free and easy to install. If it still shows unable to read after using Inkscape you most likely don't have a valid SVG file. Inkscape is wonderful and is real easy to use.

If you don't have Inkscape, why do you need to open them? Just open SCAL and import the ones that you need.
Re: Purchased SVGs won't open
You can't open any svg's unless you have a program like inkscape or corel draw, or adobe illustrator. What you can do is unzipp them to your desk top, then in scal, import them into scal.
If you just watned to see the file, you need to down load inkscape (free) and then you will be able to "open" them.

I don't have inkscape and I just unzip and save to my flash drive. I unzip as soon as I upload the file and then save to flash drive.
Don't know if that has any bearing on anything??? Then I import to SCAL and cut.
My other thought is are they SCUT. files? If so you would Open NOT import.

Re: Purchased SVGs won't open
I am trying to open fonts I downloaded as well. I have Inkscape. Do these fonts need changed in inkscape first, like to an SVG? I am new to this and can't get any of my unzipped fonts to open in SCAL. When I click on them on my desktop, the files open and I can see the images. I just can't get them to work with SCAL.
I watched a few tutorials and figured out how to use these fonts with SCAL!!!! Since I have Windows Vista, they started to make tutorials geared toward Vista. I have learned so much from this forum tonight. I will definitely be back. Thanks to everyone for being so helpful.

Re: Purchased SVGs won't open
If I have saved an SVG file and it wont import, and I use Inkscape to open it to see what the problem is with the file. There are lots out there that have what I call hickups that causes problems when either importing or trying to cut. And I never never try to cut something that I have not thourghly looked over in Inkscape, even mine. Just waist energy and paper.
One other thing about using Inkscape, I need to know the file hasn't been made with multil layers that need to be seperated and broken apart into sections (like a Winnie the Poo with a jacket and Honey Pot.)
I know I have found some svgs that were created in Illustrator, boxes mostly that had lines that were not connected. A little workin Inkscape and it solved the problem

Re: Purchased SVGs won't open
From the sounds of your inquiry you are just trying to click the file to open it. Open the scal program and go to the file menu. You will want to import the svg file rather than opening it. It should open up when you are importing it into the SAL program. You may be trying to do more complicated things with the file by using Illustrator but if you simply want to cut with them in SCAL ,you should be able to use IMPORT and open them in SCAL.
