I am very new to SCAL (just got it yesterday) and I've been trying to figure this whole thing out... I have a few questions that I've been struggling trying to figure out.

First - whenever place my first image on the mat it makes that yellow box around it and every other image is placed next and the yellow box expands to fit. I am trying to move the letters to weld them top to bottom and I can't get it to go right because I can only move the next letter with it's center along the yellow box and I can't seem to figure out how to break free from that box. Is it possible?

Second - How can I layer images- not images that are layer, put one image inside another image like in a hollow part of an O put a flower or something? I have a flower I want to use, but everytime I try it I lose the box on the flower and can't get it to keep resizing to make the petals touch the O so I can weld it. I want the flower and the O to be one piece.

I think you are going to have to type your letters in separate boxes to get vertical text. The yelloe box does impose some kind of limit that makes it impossible to get more than a couple of letters on top of each other.

To get a flower for the center of an O, first type your O and set it to blackout in the properties box so it is solid. Size and position it how you want it. Then type your flower in a separate text box and size it how you want it and drag it on top of the flower. That's all there is to it. Any time you have trouble sizing or moving something with the handles, you can use the numerical values in the properties box that appears when that object is selected.
