Help! Cricut won't cut!

Hey guys!
OK, so it has been some time since I have used my Cricut with SCAL, but I have never had a problem.
Today I sit down to cut some vinyl and it keeps getting stuck on "Checking mat . . ." It's driving me nuts-o
I have restarted my computer and cricut with no luck.
I'm cutting with V 1.1 Do I need to update?

Unless you changed machines or computers, you shouldn't have to update if you were cutting before with SCAl.
Do you have a Cricut Cartridge in the machine. If no, put one in. Any one.
Do not have any other software running upfront or in the background. SCAL doesn't like any other programs to be running that use USB ports. Cell phones and scanner software have interfered with SCAL. There may be others.

I just got SCAL yesterday and mine is stopping at the "Check Mat" point also. I've tried rebooting and I've made sure I have a cartridge in. My DS is cutting fine.

Thanks for the advise! I actually didn't realize my DH had set up a hub with my usb. got rid of the hub, problem solved

What is this HUB software or ? that was causing the problem. I want to add this to my notes.
