I saw this in a magazine. I decided it wasn't a good design;
1. I think all that stuff being exposed under my project would be distracting.
2. the storage is nice but on the side?? Would rather have all that in the front for easier access while working.
But hey, to each his own, obviously it passed someones standards!

It would drive me crazy. For a person like me having a clear desk top would be pointless. I have all my stuff on top of the desk. The storage should be on the front.
just my two cents.

I think if you work on a large mat, to cover the distraction.
I would love this desk, with all this storage space I would make it work.

Does anybody know the cheapest place to buy the plastic 12" x 12" paper storage bins? I think I need to buy a couple for the sheets of paper I do buy, even though it's not very often. Right now I have them sitting out and the corners are getting wrinkled.

The plastic magazine type bins 12x12 can be purchased from Hobby Lobby or Michaels and if the storage isn't on sale they ususally have a internet coupon. Michaels has one this week for 40% off.

I have a similar design that I got from Ikea. The top is clear glass and I can slide t hings underneath. I too thought it would be distracting, but it's not at all. As a matter of fact, I like having access to some items without having them directly ON my work surface.
I've never posted a picture here so bear with me if it takes me a few tries to get this to show up.

Anyway, here's the Ikea table top without the base that they market for it. I chose 2 3-drawer units instead so that I'd have some concealed storage.

Go to this web site. She makes furniture with plans based on well known companies and her plans look so easy. A very talented lady. She has lots of plans that could be used for our craft rooms.

I like the slide in version on pic #2 better so that it doesn't have to be raised. i think my $35 used dining room table gives me depth to pile wood and metal containers on top just fine, though. I oodle over prefab stuff, but when it comes to forking out money and really looking at what I'd give up, I keep going back to my conglomeration of yard sale finds! It's not that I can't afford it...I'd just rather spend the money elsewhere.
