Using black contact paper....need to transf. cut...

HELP! I've been using contact paper instead of vinyl. I can buy it locally and it's cheap :) BUT - I have a heck of a time transferring it to my tile. I have clear contact paper, have stuck it to the carpet, my shirt, towells, chair.....trying to get the tack off.....but it still is a pain to use!

Any ideas? Would actual transfer tape work with contact paper? I wonder how sticky it is....and can it be re-used.....I see it's not too expensive....would it work?

SO MANY QUESTIONS!!!

Thanks everyone!

I use clear contact paper to transfer my vinyl cuts. This probably won't work for you, because the adhesives are probably the same strength. Once I transfer my vinyl to something, its adhesive is stronger than the contact paper, so the contact paper peels right away.

I use contact paper as well but I leave the sticky backing sheet on due to what you have experienced. I rough up the backing with steel wool or the back of a scrubby sponge to give it some traction to stick to the mat. You can also spray some adhesive on the back, like Krylon Easy Tac but that seems to get all over everything.

Is that clear?

Make sure you clean the tiles good, and burnish down the contact paper to them. The idea is to get a really good seal so that it is better than the one between contact paper and transfer paper (another layer of contact paper in your case). Be sure you don't leave the transfer paper on the letters before transferring them any longer than necessary because the bonds are time-dependent as well. Also be sure you don't have much extra surface area (transfer paper laying on tile) to fight against. In fact, for letters as small as what you use on a tile, maybe you could just try strips of painters tape. They will need to be de-stickified, too. Press n seal in another option, not sure what the relative tack level is, but hear some people use it successfully with vinyl.

WOOHOO!!! Press N Seal WORKS!!! I didn't do anything for the walls...but I did it on smaller words to spruce up my craft desk.
Thanks for the GREAT idea! I can't wait to try it on a big project :)

Thanks!

instead use some proper adhesive as according to the need and after a proper search
