Was cutting on my Cricut earlier ...... no problems... it did everything it should... then, just now.. I've gone back to it to do some more........ loaded my project in SCAL .... went to 'cut' ..... and it said
' Cricut machine not found, please make sure it is connected and turned on'
Well .... it is connected, and turned on

Just cut with my Cricut using a cartridge and not through SCAL ....... it cut fine.
So.. that tells me the problem is within SCAL ??
Do you think?

Check both ends of the usb cable and make sure they are plugged in.
If that's not the problem try turning off the cricut, turning off the computer, turn on the cricut, turn on the computer
try cutting again.
I think it is a communication problem between the computer and the cricut.

Try plugging the Cricut into a different USB port on your computer.

Yikes!!!! I've been there and done that....Have you been getting an occasional "Windows has encountered a problem and needs to shut down?" After receiving this error several times, my USB ports...ALL OF THEM...NOT just the cricut quit working. My computer guru gave me some tips and nothing fixed it. I eventually had to do a complete system restore loosing much information and TONS of hours of time. I still haven't rehooked up SCAL because I'm trying to find the source. In my research however, if you have downloaded a SVG viewer, many people have been having Windows problems with this. I have uninstalled the windows viewer and been playing tonight without any problems but we'll see what happens. If you'd like to compare closer notes, send me your email address and we'll compare. I really, really, really, really, really hope you don't have the same headaches as I am experiencing because it is litterally a mess!
Here's to hoping you don't!

It might be a virtual memory problem also which is my biggest problem with my computer since I have a kizillion graphics on it. You might try increasing your virtual memory. You can find out how to do it on line, just type in "How to increase virtual memory" in the search line and google it.

Oh I so wish you had posted what your solution was!!! I'm having exactly the same issue. I'm at a weekend crop right now, was happily using my Cricut with SCAL, tried cutting some words and got the same error as you: Cricut machine could not be found. Please make sure it is connected and turned on. I've rebooted, I've shut down, turning Cricut off and on again, etc. Nothing is working. I'm only at this crop for a couple more hours and would love to have these letters cut.
Please, please post your solution. It may be too late for me, but would sure help someone else or me another time!
Thanks!
