I've been experimenting with the Paint Bucket tool and created a video tutorial on how to use it to trace bitmaps piece by piece. I think you will find it a nice addition to the Auto Trace and Pen Tool methods.

Re: New way to trace bitmaps
Hi
Okay I watched it twice and had a go using a colouring page. The only problem is when the line art isnt quite connected. So do you fill the line yourself?
Guess that might be in part 2 of the video.
Cheers
Christine

Re: New way to trace bitmaps
Good question, Christine. I kept running out of time when I tried to cover this in the video, but there is an easy fix. If you look at the to tool properties that are at the top of the window when the paint bucket is selected there is one called "fill gaps." I had it set to "none" for the videos because I didn't need it. Set "fill gaps" to "small" and if that doesn't work go up to "medium" or "large. You can do this for individual instances if you need to. If a gap is very large, then draw a line across it like I did at the bottom of the boy in the video.

It turns out that screencast.com has a bandwidth limit that I quickly exceeded. So ... please use the blog link below instead of a direct link to the videos so that I can re-direct to the latest link and ensure the videos are available. Thanks.

WOW! What a great tutorial! That makes piecing/layering SO much more simple! It isn't near as daunting as the prior methods.

Kay-
How did you do 2 things (I'm a novice remember).
1) how did you get the black canvas?
2) How did you set your outline on your paint area to the pink? I'd love to have that so I can see what I'm highlighting and what's been highlighted.
