I go into Inkscape and choose a Font. When I type "A" I get the dog dingbat that I want. I size it. I save it as an SVG file. I import it ito SCAL and it is blank. Thanks.

You have to convert it to path. From the menu, Path/Object to path.

after you type your text, you need to trace it.

type text
click: path: object to path

THEN save as an svg file.

if you do not trace the object/text, it will not work.

You don't need Inkscape just to type in a dingbat, you can do that directly from SCAL.
