I think the answer to that question is no.
once it is saved as a design file it can be used over and over again without the original font.

I was wrong.
I just saved a file created with a dingbat. I closed the the dingbat font, then closed scal. I restarted scal and opened the test file, and lo and behold the file appeared but as regular lettering and not as the dingbats.
bummer.
I think I read somewhere, however, that if you create it in inkscape, then save as an svg it will work.

If you create your file in SCAL only those users who have the font or dingbat on their pcs can see it, as the file is read as a font file..
A good idea is to write the name of the font and where you downloaded it from on the accompanying post, plus post a screen shot of the finished file so people can see what they are downloading and what it should look like.
If you create your file in Inkscape and save as .svg then you are importing a graphics file that anyone who has SCAL can read.

When creating a file with a font/dingbat, you should convert it to an object using Inkscape. That way, they will be able to see your design whether they have the font on their computer or not.
When uploading to the forum, you only post the .svg file (file saved in Inkscape) cuz we have not had any success with .scut files with imbedded .svg files....nothing shows up when we download it.
There are some tutorials floating around the message board...check General on the older pages, and I believe there are some tuts on the Craft Edge page. I will look for the tutorials as they will help alot.
