mat checking freezing

Just got a new baby bug and of course had to get this program. Only problem is my firmware once upgraded is 1.32. Is this why I am having issues with the program freezing up on me? Sometimes it works beautifully and other times it will all of a sudden during "checking mat" freeze up on me. There seems to be no rhyme or reason for the freezing. Am I doing something on my end? HELP! TIA

If you are running Vista, see #9 in the FAQs on the CraftEdge site:

Thanks. I am not running Vista. I've also checked the board for other tips and tried those- keeping all programs off & virus protection off, checked USB ports, etc.. etc... Nothing is helping. It must have to do with the upgraded 1.32 firmware?????

Do you have any other hardware that runs off of USB ports connected to your computer? Also, check your USB Com port setting and make sure it has a number between 1 and 4. SCAL seems to only work with the lower numbers.

I have regular windows and I have problems with freezing if I leave inkscape open while trying to run SCAL....one time I read that a person was low on memory and that caused lots of freezing. For the most part I run SCAL with everything else closed and I haven't noticed as many problems.

I have a Mac & I have this problem ONLY if I have already cut a design, and then I go back & change it in SCAL, and want to cut again. I have to force quit the program, and start all over. It's very frustrating
