It's been a long time... please help

Post by cloetzu »

Hello Everyone! Long time since i was here and sharing! Hoping that is going to change in the coming weeks as I get back into scrapbooking!

I've been out of the loop for over a year, maybe almost 2 yrs... haven't used my cricut or SCAL in a very long time. Came to the board about 6 months ago and was reading about some changes but now can't find some info that i'm looking for. Hoping someone can explain/summarize/clarify some things for me....................

UPDATED: I found most of the info i was looking for after posting this :) so edited and upated to show only the 2 outstanding questions i have:

1) SCAL License: My SCAL license was loaded on my old pc - which died and in trying to rebuild seems to have really died and no longer even boots. So replaced with a laptop 9 months ago. I want to install my SCAL onto that laptop machine. Can i do this since the old one no longer works? ie i can't boot the old one so can't uninstall - the machine no longer works :(

2) Firmware: can i download and use the latest Design Studio and NOT udpate the firmware or is it going to insist that I update the firmware to use the DS software? I have on older verison of the DS software that I installed earlier today without even thinking of the implications ;( so don't really need to go get the latest and greatest from their site but would like to if possible so i can view the latest cartridges and fonts - i'm a visual person and it helps me design layouts even if i don't end up using their carts/images. I have no intent on buying any new carts but was given 2 in the last 6 months.

Any and all information is greatly apprecaited!!

Cheers!

Let me see what I can answer on your list of question:

1. See this link for firmware requirements: http://craftedge.com/support/faq/faq_surecutsalot.html#

2. You can upload to your new computer. You will need your serial number and you must be the original purchaser. go to this link: http://craftedge.com/support/faq/faq_surecutsalot.html#

3. I dont know design studio so perhaps someone else can answer.

Thanks Sandy!

I now have all questions answered (with great Customer Service from Craft Edge!) except for the one re: the Cricut Firmware/DS software update. Just worried about if the new version of the DS sofware (from the Provo site) will insist i do a firmware update before letting me use the machine (with my exising carts)??

Anyone know??

THANKS in advance!!

I recently had to reinstall ds, because I had to back my computer to factory settings. I downloaded the trial and fonts on their website, and had to call to talk to someone there to explain and get it activated. Was told to update the firmware, but it worked before with the firmware I had on the cutting machine, so I tried it and it all works well without any further change to fw. And my scal works too.

Seems I had a driver issue on the computer...and so I d/l from within scal HELP section.
My pictures and files are available for a limited time only.
