Was trying to use SCAL for first time and it quit cutting in the middle of the cut. The message on the Cricut said to use the keypad and enter letters. But I couldn't do anything because SCAL froze up! Any suggestions?

SCAL does have bugs still and sometimes freezes for no apparent reason. Just turn everything off and start again. Sometimes it will pause and the message 'sending to USB connection' or something similar comes up on the Cricut screen - this is SCAL having a snooze then it starts up again. Quite amusing but not if you are in a hurry which i always am!
