OK I'll probably get dumb question of the week award here. What is the difference between .scut and .svg files? Do they both work in SCAL or is one for inkscape? Do you create it in inksape? Is it a project in SCAL that you save? I havn't been able to get software until tomorrow so I'm just trying to understand more before I do.

svg files are what you create in Inkscape. If you make something in Inkscape and want to cut it in SCAL you create the svg file and import it in SCAL. When you have the design in SCAL finished you save it as a scut file. svg files can be imported into SCAL but scut files cannot be imported back into Inkscape.

Thanks so much. Such a simple thing that I had totally overcomplicated.
