Cut flower card border

Here are a couple of borders I made using gj1's single cut elements. They didn't exactly turn out as I intended though. It should have cut the whole petal out so they could be bent up from the center, but instead it just cut one side of each petal. The other half was scraped by the blade, but it just didn't go through. Same side of every petal the same way. I don't get it. And I didn't use heavy cardstock either. Maybe if it was cut twice it would go all the way through.

Anyway, I just bent the cut side of each petal up, so they look a little pinwheel-like.

Lol-- Move over Martha! Ha ha! Yes, I am kind of a detail fiend. I was an accountant in my business life. I guess I could be considered anal. But really, working with the little stuff is just as easy as bigger. Make it big and shrink it, or zoom way in.

Actually, I did do my flower petals from your SCAL file. I used the single line half circle, which only has two nodes. I just adjusted them to make a rounded petal, which I then copied and pasted five times, rotating each one to place them in a circle. Then I copied the resulting flower over and over. Interestingly, it cut each petal exactly the same way-- completely through the paper on one side, and getting gradually shallower as it went toward the other side. On the second side, the blade scraped the paper part of the way, but it didn't go deep enough to cut. Very strange, because it's just one single line, and it cut every one exactly the same. And I have never had that issue with anything else. Very weird.

I do still like the way it looks though, but it was kind of tedious popping up each little petal!

If you grouped the image...in scal, it wants to return things to a closed path. If you cut the flower image, that you have larger on the one page. you will find that it returned to closed path on 3 of the petals. Why only 3 I am not sure...maybe when you went to group you only selected 3 petals and the circle and not the others...not sure. Just trying to think what happened.

I might also add that in stretching the image of the half circle something might have happened...maybe some nodes should have been added with the pen tool by clicking it on the existing line can add nodes. Or maybe the long handle needed to be pushed down into the last node. If HeatherM or firstcut happen to look at this file maybe they could mention their expertise in this kind of work. I just do by trial and error and don't really know the technical part of things.

It is still very very beautiful and I did take the large flower that you made from the line drawings and got them to open path lines again...but did that in inkscape. I did not redraw the flower in scal...I had my day with the pen tool already...lol.

I just love this file that you made...it is really really a class bit of work!! I like the leaves you added so much too.

Anyway, I do have a file with the petals that bend up completely, it really does not look much different but is a bit easier to bend them upward....I also did a group, closing the path on all and exclude to make a pattern like a punch. I took the center holes out because now they did not cut much, but I like this look also. I will post the picture and with your permission upload the file...let me know.

Not sure what the heck I did with the three closed petals! In theory, there shouldn't have to be more nodes to modify a half circle like that, but I bet you're right and I should probably have added more. So much to learn...

I love what you did with the two cards, especially the one on the left! That looks so pretty! I was pondering what to do with the front of the cards with this border. Yours are wonderful. And yes, please feel free to post any changes you make to any of my files. The more creativity the better, if you ask me. Love your ideas!

This is your same file with some pages added...I indicated it is different by me...so if others keep both files they will know which is which. Thanks! I will post the file above by my picture.
