Cleaning up an image

Hi! I was wondering if someone could help me clean up an image. It was scanned from a piece of paper, and I can't get the "scan lines" off of it. I've tried breaking apart and ungrouping in SCAL after using the trace function, which has helped quite a bit from what I first started with, but I still have 2 horizontal lines running through the image. I'm sure I could do it in Inkscape, but I don't know how to do that yet! I've attached the image in case someone can look at it for me. THANKS!

k, can you post the scut file you are working with. The jpg you attached it too faint to get a good trace and be like what you already have.

I'll work on it as soon as you post it and then tell you how to fix it, if I can.

I love a challenge you know.

This is the scut file. I adjusted the brightness, speckled, optimize, etc. to get it this far...

You've done a great job. Now to finish it up.

First do a path simplify on the whole image. This will get rid of a bunch of nodes.
Now select the "node" tool. This is what you should see. I zoomed in to see the nodes better.

Now that you can see those pesky lines

all you need to do is delete the nodes for the lines you don't want. Zoom in more to get the line on the inside right leg as there are a bunch of intersecting nodes and it a bit hard to pick out which one or two to delete. Undo and Save are your friends whilst doing this. NOTE: start at the outside nodes and work inward toward the body

I hope this helps. I love helping those who want to learn.

Let us know.

Yes, thank you very much! I did exactly what you said, and I've gotten everything off but a little segment of the line. When I delete the nodes, it "flattens" the stork's "butt" just a little bit. I've played around with deleting (and undoing!) different nodes, but I can't get it to keep the original curve perfectly. It's pretty darn good, though!

if you go to path/simplify in scal you can move your nodes to shape much easier..
