Okay I have the DS disc. Should I not install that at all? I'd like to use it to weld the cartridge images. But I really want the SCAL to work.

How hard is the SCAL to use? I hope to figure it out basically in a week so I can use it at a crop I'm going to

Any help is greatly appreciated!

SCAL will not work with the lastest version of DSS. There is a workaround but I don't use it...I only use SCAL. I have been tempted to use DSS but it doesn't last long.

I only cut in SCAL. All my projects are designed in Inkscape first and then imported into SCAL to cut. SCAL has some great features but I don't use them.

I have only been using SCAL and love it. I have learned the very basics of inkscape and get by just fine. I would rather not deal with taking the chances of the compatibility issues. SCAL is very easy to learn. Check out some of the tutorials on the forum. I always use inkscape to trace my bitmaps and save things in a .svg format to import them into SCAL. Know if you want to get technical you can break things apart in inkscape and then save them individually then import them into SCAL. Sorry I jabber and confuse but it really is easy once you get the hang of things. You can still weld manually with the SCAL. It is really fun and gives you so many more options as far as ideas and endless fonts. Believe me I bought quite a bit of carts before finding SCAL! I think if you just give yourself sometime to learn you will be okay. Just play with it some day. You can even flip objects too! I did a monkey room for my neighbors girls birthday out of a coloring page palm tree and a monkey I think I found on here somewhere. The palm tree is 32 inchies tall and was tricky because I actually had to take each leaf and cut it seperately but it still can be done. I just think by far there is more options with SCAL I am not willing to take my chances. I love it! I still use my carts without DS.

You can probably install DS and as long as it's the original version you won't have a compatibility issue with SCAL, it is the DS update that blocks. As long as the DS is version 1.0.20211.0 it will still have firmware version 1.1/2.1 and you can cut with all but the newest cartridges, you won't be able to use Storybook or Graphically Speaking. Plus if you haven't updated the firmware on your bug yet that will need to be done. There were a lot of copies of DS for sale and I don't know when PC would have had the time to manufacture new ones and get them to the stores so the ones in the stores are probably the older version.
