Help please file is pixelated

I know how to save a jpeg into inkscape and how to trace bitmap, make sure the numbers are both 650 and all of that. After it is traced it is very pixelated. After I do it in outline you can barely see anything. I do not have a Wishblade or I would just download the GSD file. Can anyone tell me what I might be doing wrong. Here is what I'm trying to cut out.

Could it have been because I saved it in the thumbnail size?? I've ran into this once before and just gave up but thought this time I want to know what to do..

Thanks for your help.

If we are thinking the same thing when you say pixelated, then you are deleting the wrong image. The vector image will have smooth lines and since the image you are tracing is only lines, if is possible you deleted the wrong one.

In a case like this one, I usually select the image and move it over...one will be the original and one the trace. To check which is which, click on the 2nd icon (Edit Path nodes) on the tool set and if your selected file shows nodes, delete the other one...if it does not, delete that one.

Thanks for sharing...I am going to get those also.

That is a great site!

You can also see which image is the trace and which is the original by going to the outline view. The original will look like a big red X in the outline view.

If that's not the fix, let us know! There are a couple of other things you could try.

I figured out what I was doing wrong..I saved the jpeg file as the thumbnail..well it was to small. So when I enlarged it the pixels showed up..not good. So I opened the swirl so it was the larger photo. Saved it and then was able to cut it out..except....it cuts it out twice and I can see the double line in inkscape..just can't get it to come apart. I've done break apart and all of that but just can't grab that second line. Is there something else I need to do.

If you go to the previous page on the link I sent to earlier you can see how they look when they are folded and put together. No more tracing and cutting them out by hand.

You can try doing Object - Ungroup. For some reason I have to do that sometimes after I trace a path. Then break apart again. You could also try moving one of the outlines to the side so that you can get the one underneath (if they actually broke apart).

If you have Inkscape maximized you can also look at the status bar at the very bottom of the window and see what it says when you do Break Apart. It will tell you if it didn't work etc.

I love them...I got them all. One thing I noticed about them is that the lines are not always connected. I grabbed the gsd files. You have to make sure all the lines are connected or you might get an outline cut. If you do a Break Apart and the shape is not a solid color (some of the image is white), your shape is not fully connected. I zoom in, find the gaps, use nodes to connect the two ends, Path>Union until I can get a solid shape in BA.

Once you get a fully connected shape, Break Apart, View>Outline and now you can use the Select Arrow (1st Icon) and delete the inner shapes.
