out of scale

I'm having a small scaling issue with SCAL and the small Cricut machine. I have imported some dxf objects and when I go into transform and scale it will say... oh 2.5 inches in width. It will actually come out 2 7/16" wide. So I'm having to go through and adjust all my measurements by 1/16" to make the SCAL files match the real world results. Is this typical?

Most of us don't use this program to be that precise. I haven't actually measured actual size vs. cut size to see if mine is off by 1/16", but it may very well be off that much.

I've heard Cricut Cartridges aren't true to size either.

What are you designing, I'm curious?!

You can try messing around with the calibration settings in the latest version of SCAL. But The Cricut is known to not be precise. If you want that, you might be better off with a Silhouette which has registration marks on the paper to be more accurate.

I've been pleased so far after using SCAL's calibration, though. I can't say that everything is within 1/16" tolerance, but for my paper toy templates it's been very close across the entire page.

I am new to all this so I didn't know if it was a mistake on my part or what. Now I know and can allow for it. Yes I do build model planes, and 1/16" sheeting is not uncommon so if your parts are 1/16 off you are basically the thickness of the skin that is on the outside of the plane. Half the time it isn't a big deal but there are key places you have to keep that kind of tolerances.
