deleting a line

I am sure this is going to sound pretty lame to some but I am just learning and I can't find a tutorial that explains it or maybe I am missing something. I am trying to do a heart pattern, so I pick the heart from the basic shapes and put it on my mat. But I don't want the heart to cut all the way out so I need to delete the point at the bottom of the heart so it doesnt cut out the total image. How do I alter the basic shapes? I am trying to make a heart that just pops out alittle so I can stick a gift card behind it. I hope this makes sense. Can any one tell me how to do this? Or point me to a tutorial that explains it? I have watched several but have not found one that is explaining what I am trying to do. Basically I just want to remove a line from one of the basic shapes.

Here is another you can glue along edges of shorter side, fold and slide a giftcard in the opening.

Thank you !!!!. That is exactly what I am trying to do. I really want to learn how to make my own files, but I am doing good just to get any scrapbooking done. I really really appreciate the files and reference site.
