I like the imagine very little but will never get one unless I win one or get one as a gift so with that being said can you just just a regular cricut and SCAL2 to do the same thing as the IMAGINE or do you have to have the IMAGINE and is SAL compatible with IMAGINE

If you mean print and cut?? Yes SCAL can do this now... You don't need the imagine... Provided you have SCAL 2.038.. Just go to the tutorials section and it's explained how..

I believe you have to have the specific cartridges when using the Imagine. With the Cricut original, or the Cricut Expression, you only need one cartridge and combined with using the internet you are never limited like you are with only using cartridges. (Not to mention the money you'll save by not having to purchase cartridges). You can also Print and Cut now with the latest update (2.038) The designs you can get on this forum for FREE with keep you busy for quite a long time

WIth the Imagine you are limited to several hundred images and patterns so you will notice that the samples you are seeing are looking a lot alike. With "our" print and cut you have a nearly limitless supply of images and fills. Jin has created a number of faux Imagine cards on her blog if you want to check that out and be blown away.

I am so confused! I got the Cricut Imagine for Christmas and gave my mom my Cricut Expression. Will I still be able to use SCAL with my new Imagine? I saw somebody post that you had to use the Cricut cartridges. That is why I got SCAL so I wouldn't have to buy so many cartridges at $80.00 each. The machine was $500.00. We can't afford anymore for a hobby!

I went to this...but it was talking about the Makes the Cut software is that the same as SCAL2? I thought they were different. I am not understanding how SCAL2 is like the imagine being used on the cricut? I am still learning all this stuff. I have had the E for 2 years and just got SCAL2 a week or so ago and the IMAGINE as a Christmas present. I would hate to think they wasted their money on it if I could have done all this on the E? I know the E can print then be cut out but I didn't realise the SCAl2 could do patterns with the E? More help please!

In Scal 2.. You can now print off your regular printer.. then take the image back to scal and cut the outline out.. It explains how to do this in one of the tutorial topics.. The cricut E doesn't print just your own printer .. Here is what I'm speaking about..

IMHO the Imagine is a rip off. No you cannot use Scal, MTC or Cricut design studio with it. It only works with Cartridges or the Gypsy. You have to have a gypsy in order to weld or use other editing features, So add 200-300 bucks for a gypsy to your $500 Imagine, add the cost of carts and more carts to get textures.
I'm sticking with my second party software, takes practice but saves $$$.
FYI
The Shilouette/craftrobo has awesome optical eye and works very well for PNC.

I love SCAL2.038 with Print & Cut feature...it is soooooooooooooooooooooo COOL!!!!! All I need is my SCAL2.038, the WORLD WIDE web for images, and my cutting machine. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am also now using the pen tool in SCAL2.038 to created the outline to cut around some images if they do not trace well.

I have lots of info on print and cut with a regular cricut here

As far as patterns, that has always been easy with an E, with or without additional software. Just print out a swatch of your favorite digipaper, load it on the mat and cut from it, just like you would any other paper.
