I was curious... have any of you had sucess cutting contact paper? My main purpose today is needing a clear, sticky stencil to be able to apply glass etching cream for 60 seconds (with probably the clear contact paper). (I also wonder if contact paper would 'dissolve' too much with etching cream if anyone has experience in that area?)

Then, if different colors are available, that would seem to open up lots of doors; like with the 'funky' woodgrain pattern available, etc. I live out in the 'boonies' where I'd have to order any vinyl online and need this project in a rush; so I sure appreciate any advice!

I know you asked if anyone had success cutting contact paper. Well I tried it once and it did not work for me. It was a mess. It shifted on the mat and shredded. I wanted to try it to make a stencil. I guess a heavier paper make a good stencil or maybe an sheet of acetate. I never tried the acetate though. I hope someone else has the answer you are looking for.

I had no problem cutting contact paper for Yard Sale signs. You really need to smooth the paper out on the mat tho to get all the bubbles (air) out or you will have it come up. I used a bone folder thingy. A couple of time when I pulled up the letter the backing stayed on the mat. Since I only cut 5" letters this was not a problem. I just peeled up the backer paper and attached it back to my letter so I could layout the letters on the mat board.

I have posted a link to the Provocraft website that has a project using etching cream and they used the PC vinyl (equivalent to wall pops).

Some members of other groups I am on use Duck Brand Shelf liner on their personal cutters.

I have seen this at Lowe's, Ace Hardware and have heard it was purchased at Menards.

I know they have a brush steele and a few other choices including a cork, but I haven't heard of anyone cutting the cork.

Thought this might be of interest for cutting.

Thanks so much to all who answered... I especially appreciate the tutorial link! When I search at Cricut boards, the results always come back 'nothing found' even on the simplest terms, so I don't know if it's me or what?

I also cut successfully with Contact paper. The brands I have used are the Duck brand and the Magic Cover brand. As long as your mat is sticky and you carefully smooth the contact paper onto the mat to flatten out the bubbles you sometimes see when flattening the roll, it works great! I have especially had success with the silver kind that looks like stainless steel. It seems to have the right stiffness to it. I haven't tried clear contact paper or etching, so I can't help there.
