Zooming

These are a couple of things that are bugging me, someone please tell me if I'm doing something wrong or this is what its supposed to do.
I would like to be able to select something and go to zoom and it zoom in on the item that I have selected. When I zoom it always takes me back to the upper left corner...
I would also like to see a percentage list in the zoom drop down...such as 200%, 400% and so forth.
