walmart online has the cricut personal for $194 + shipping. I went by my local WM, and they had a bunch in the back room - lady told me they didn't sell, but if I wanted one, they were now $250.
Went right home and ordered online. I can't wait to get it now -- I have put off buying one because I did not know about SCAL. Until it gets here, I will learn how to use Inkscape.
Is there a trial version of scal I could practice on? I am hoping both programs will run on a Vista 64-bit computer.

ALSO, I am wondering which firmware version this walmart cricut will have.... anyone know?

The Cricut Personal here in Oklahoma City went for 69.99 on black Friday (started Thursday at 5 pm). Somesone said that Joanns had them at 74 but didn't go there. It was across town and cost more.

Yes, it's the smaller Cricut Create Personal - the link is http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product. ... 1040047#rr
Has the 6" x 12" mats, tools, and spatula.
I think it will be okay for me -- I'm a total newbie at this. My DIL is huge into card making, and I've always loved her designs.

my Walmart had 3 left at 6pm. I moved them to get a sewing machine that was on sale that day too for my daughter. Too bad I did not know I wanted a cricut until I saw the one my sister got BF. Now I want one almost a week too late.

The Walmart I was in last evening had the Big E's in all four colors for $250.

But my real steal of the day was the MS punches.... the combo ones... with the straight part and the corner pieces.... the ones that sold for $20 orginally....

Yeah, those ones, they were marked down to TWO Bucks! I was so excited, I bought NINE of them! There was the triple dot, the spider web one, and the single loop one.... These will make great little gifts to go with the Baby Bug I bought for a family of teenagers (that way they each will have something to open!)

And I plan on keeping three.... and then the other three I will donate to my local rec center to give away as door prizes at an upcoming crop.

Oh, and this walmart has an OK selection of papers and such, and they NEVER had these punches on the floor for sale at the $20 price.... as I have had heard the chatter over these punches, but was never too interested in them because of SCAL... but for the price of $2 for TWO punches... I couldn't resist, and now my girls like to play with the punches too.

I love deals like that and that's why I have another E still in the box sitting in my garage that I purchased on Black Friday. I can't pass up a good deal? It's a sickness I know. LOL

Nope. Just connect your Cricut to you computer; SCAL doesn't keep track of what Cricut it's talking to. You might want to update the firmware on your Cricut, but I've used 2.31 and 2.34 with the same copy of SCAL2 with no problem.
