Re: Using Zig Glue on Mats What happened
hey, thanks for making this tiny experiment and giving us your results. I'll be waiting to see your findings.

Re: Using Zig Glue on Mats What happened
I never made to the store to buy a bigger Xyron cartridge... I was going to try either a 5" or 9" wide one.
But then I remembered I had the 1.5" Xyron tape, and it was the repositionable too!
So I started putting that down on my nicely cleaned with soap and water, and allowed to air dry, Mat.
I followed the above directions by taking apart the cellopane part and the paper backing part, just leaving it all on the cartridge.
I did not tape off the edges as the 1.5" was easy to work with.
I also could just use a pair of siccors to cut the 1.5" as I ended each strip on the mat.
It took 8 strips of the 1.5" wide. I placed all 8 strips on the mat before I removed the backing.
when removing the backing from the mat, if the glue came off with the paper, I just pressed it back onto the mat as best I could.
there is 20 feet of tape on the 1.5" wide cartridge... so I could restick two mats for the price of the replacement cartridge (about $2.50-$3.00? w/ coupon)
I didn't try to refeed the paper with the glue or the cellopane back into the cartridge to make it work the Xyron again.
When finished lifting the paper backing, I pressed my hands all over the mat to remove some of the stickiness as I would with any new mat or re-glue.
And then I proceeded to cut out about 5 images/text.
It worked just like the original mat... not too sticky, and I didn't have any glue balls either.
so I think we have a winner!

I have used the Krylon spray in the past and liked it, but won't spray it inside the house. I tried the Aileen's Tack-It Over and Over and really like it. You don't need to tape off the edges of the mat and there are no fumes in the house. I don't think it lasts quite as long as the spray, but since there is less prep time (actually no prep time
) that doesn't matter to me. The Aileen's does need some dry time, but I just paint my mats ahead of time.

bump.
I am still using my CE mats with my Cameo, and still restickying with the Xryon when needed. But really only need to restick about once a year.

Ailenes Tack it diluted 50% with water and then brushed on works great.
