SCAL may be better than DS, But Then there is even more money lost. Since I had DS before I knew about SCAL, and then the cost of the cartridges I had already bought.

People like to rag on the cartridges, but I think they're still very valuable. You get dozens (at least) of well designed images, many with layers and shadows. The sizing is all coordinated so you can use the dial to make layered items consistently. The E has nice buttons like "fit to page" and "auto fill". And there's the ease factor - pop in cartridge, push a couple buttons, cut. Sure, at full price they are expensive, but they are regularly on sale 1/2 price and sometimes less than that.

Don't think of your cartridges as money lost but very nice content you may have paid too much for.

I just want to be able to use both programs that I purchased. I totally agree with you about the cartridges, I don't want to have to choose between the programs.

I am in contact with SCAL support and from what they say I am the ONE and ONLY person that has had this problem.

Maybe PC has installed a block and you are the latest person here to update their firmware with this version, even though other people have the same version number.

FWIW, I downloaded DS last night and upgraded the firmware in our Expression to 2.34. SCAL still works fine.

Also, DS doesn't have some of the cartridges in it we own - specifically, "Winter Woodland" and "Everday Paper Dolls".

I downloaded the most recent DS a couple weeks ago and it has Winter Woodland and Everyday Paper Dolls on it. Maybe you are looking in the wrong sections?

I just updated my wife's Expression from 2.31 to 2.34 with the latest CDS. She can still use both CDS and SCAL (even at the same time).

Ah. I downloaded the trial version - which is not the latest version. Once I hunted around and found the download for the latest version, the cartridges are there. Very odd that the trial is not the same version as the latest.

Who knows why they didn't show up. They were on my trial version as that is the only version I have -- I don't own a full working version of DS and don't plan to since I only own a couple cartridges and much prefer using SCAL for my designs. I only d/l the most recent update of DS because I was curious to see what-all was on the Woodland cart.
