Well, I was able to get it working again. Here's what I did: Plugged the Cricut into my second USB port. I installed a USB driver for the 2nd port as the Cricut and my computer insisted upon. I had already installed it for the first USB port so I didn't have to download it from the web again. I turned off the Cricut, rebooted the computer, opened SCAL and was able to cut using the 2'nd port. I have no idea why the first port stopped working - it already had the driver installed. It's possible the first one will work again another time, I have no idea. What a pain! I was happy to be able to cut again, nonetheless.

I'm assuming you were using a laptop? Check your power options. I use a cordless mouse on mine, and at one point the default power settings kept turning off the usb ports.

Correct, I was using a laptop. All connects were secure. I used the touchpad mouse built into the machine - I did not use an external mouse or keyboard.

That's not what I meant. Just saying that some of the power management settings turn off things like USB ports.
