I agree, I don't know how to use the site either. The tar files are unix or linux zipped files and I don't think you can use them on pcs. I don't have a clue about the other files - don't understand at all what I'm looking at. There is no way I'm going to download megs and megs of stuff I have no idea what it is. Do you trust the site? How did you find out about it - how do you know it's reliable?
As far as not seeing svg graphics in SCAL, first you have to IMPORT the files, not OPEN them. If you downloaded zipped files, and the ones on the site probably are, you have to unzip, or extract, them before you can import them into SCAL. Even at that, some files just don't download or unzip well or they are otherwise damaged. Try opening a file in Inkscape if you can't import it in SCAL. That could tell you whether the file is damaged. If it appears fine, resave it in Inkscape as an SVG then try importing it into SCAL. If that doesn't work, maybe try tracing it in Inkscape and saving it again then import into SCAL. If that fails, scrap the file!
What is the error message you get when trying to open an SVG file in SCAL? Do you use Open or Import? For SVG files, you must use IMPORT.
Hope something I said helps someone! lol

Adrian, No, you don't need the font loaded onto your computer if it's an svg file. As I understand it,the font is embedded in svg files. You DO need to font if it's an .scut file, though.

You can open those "linux archives" with several pieces of software. If you want free software try peazip or 7zip.
Good luck.

Did you know you can search and import these from within Inkscape .47? File>import from open clipart library.
Another easier interface is through
http://www.clker.com
Remember that most of these are not suitable for cutting as is.
