Hi Grammy,
I cut the file and I think this is the effect Cindy was looking for. I attached the jpeg of my cut. I hope she clues us in to the fold lines as I love love love mini albums. Sorry for the low resolution on the photo I used my phone.

I hope this helps Cindy, but for some reason I thought she needs slots. Could be wrong She had showed a jpg of what was the problem with her svg, maybe I mis understood her. Old age on my part, anyway back to svgs.
Been thinking about this and somewhere around Thanksgiving I found some free svg files off the net, not this site and one was an oval that someone had made an Easter design out of but when you looked at it in Inkscape and scal the lines were not attached (top half of the egg was seperate from the bottom half) and for the life of me I couldn't get them to connect. What I usually do is select all and then combine and then connect the nodes, but you couldn't do that with these eggs/Easter characters. I did however notice that the svg files were grouped together/not attached just grouped and you could move them all as one group. I wondered if they had used a grouping function for this. Hum we may never know. I put out on our blog here about grouping and ungrouping and how they cut but haven't had an answer yet. I think I'll just use my break apart freature along with combine. It cuts well on my machine. I did however enjoyed Dans site on how to use some of the features of Inkscape.
Really have missed him lately.

DAN IS BACK!!! I just visited his site, YEAY

I just visited Dan's site again and he has a tutorial there from early December on how to remove parts out of a svg in Inkscape.
It is really helpful - I think I have been doing it a very long way now I see how easy he has made it.

Oh you guys I miss Dan too! Isn't it wild how we all (even if we are background lurkers) know when someone has gone missing. I'm off to his blog to give a look see. Thanks Lysa. Your version cut just how I wanted it to. So, because I didn't have a closed object for my bracket shapes that's what caused the little squiggles to cut at each end? I will have to remember that when I'm creating other files. Thanks everyone for your help and input. I think I'm really going to like creating my own designs to cut. I've started another file to use for my daughter's valentine cards. I'll post that when I get if finished, provided it comes out right!
