When I have time to check the site, requests get the creative juices flowing.
I want to do another one with letters welded, too, and in case anyone wants to make waves...I just rotated the ( symbol 90 degrees, slightly overlap them (weld in scal or Object to path> Union in Inkscape) and created a simple element.

Laura,
I especially love the last one!
I have a question too. How do you get a shadow that goes around all your elements? Do you just make all the shadows and then union them, or is there a way to do them all together? I have tried placing the elements, grouping, and then making a copy to make the shadow, but the shadows are still all separated. (Hope I'm making sense!)

I take all the elements in their original form and then Union them (working in Inkscape 0.48) and then Path > Outset. I hit the outset several times to get to the size I want. I may have to go in and delete a few unwanted nodes but it's pretty basic.
I have used Dynamic Offset which should let you do it in one shot but sometimes it acts funky and inconsistent.

You don't look old enough to have a son living outside your home! Just sayin'...

Thanks so much. I have a lot to learn, but I love the challenge!

Okay, so now I see that I can do this same concept in SCAL2. (I haven't done much in Inkscape, and am trying to learn how to do things without using it.) If you do a path/union on the elements, then make a copy and make it a shadow blackout, the shadow goes all around, even if the elements aren't all touching. Thank you for helping me with this! Woohoo!
