Yeah!! The Paper Rosette turned out GREAT. I'm lovin' this new version of SCAL. It's just amazing what can be done! It took me all day to create this, but mainly because of my learning curve. This cuts beautifully. I'll try to post the file, but if it doesn't work the first time, please be patient with me. I've never tried this before.

Now I can make today's 12 tags of Christmas (as posted on Tim Holtz' blog)!! YEAH!!!

I was following along with the video but after I put a box around both my card and the drawn line, then chose vertical align (as stated in the video) I can no longer just select the drawn line. Having said that, I can't change the line to perforated line because it selects everything and my card ends up being perforated as well. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? I tried to "break apart" but even after that I can't select the drawn line even if I move the card out of the way!

The rosette looks terrific and the score marks would help so much for a file like that. GREAT job.

However, I can not get the file to open or download...I wonder if anyone else can?(UPDATE: I did get it to download now...not sure what the problem was....so sorry).

Well, good going, and now you have set my direction in designing for today...as I am going to work further to try to learn how to do this. I have watched firstcut's video and will probably watch again. I just have to keep trying and eventually I should get it...but I have the same issue as kelsie, that I have to move the larger image to click on the hash mark line to select it. It is just touchie I guess.

Thanks for sharing what you have made, and now I am going to look at the project your are making.

I find it amazing how I can try and try some things and just not seem to get them, until ONE DAY it just "happens" right :)

I think I figured out how to use the pen tool and broken line feature, now. What I learned is it is important to end the pen line with the ENTER/RETURN key on the computer, as stated in firstcut's tutorial(CE I believe said to use the ESC key, but that does not work as well for me). By using the ENTER/RETURN key, it puts a box around the pen line automatically, then by changing from the pen tool to the arrow selector tool the Properties Box opens to change the type of broken line that I wanted.

NOW, I just have to learn the proper way to make a rosette. This is all wrong. I believe I was suppose to use a long strip of paper...hmmmm, I will have to look that up. BUT, it has made my day, what I have learn "right", AND it did cut GREAT and folded SOOOOOOO EASY! Yay!

Kelsie, what I learned playing with the new program is that you have to LOCK the larger surrounding image (ie, your card) before you attempt to make or move the score lines. Then you make the score lines with the pen tool. I actually made the first one, then did a cut, paste in place and moved the x axis location so all the score lines would match up exactly along the rosette strip. Then, with the body of the image still locked, you can select all the lines inside the image and convert them to score lines all at once. When everything looks like you want, UNLOCK everything, then select all and group the image so everything moves together and can be resized if necessary. HTH

The easiest option is to click on the layer in the layers window. This selects the associated object on the virtual mat in 2.030.

Just like in Photoshop, layer order is important. The pieces on the mat are in order of the layers, so layers at the top of the layers window are stacked over the layers below them (clear as mud?) Try to keep the smaller items near the top of the layers window, then you will be able to click on what you want to select. You can click on the layers in the layers window and drag/drop them to change the order, or you can go through the menu. HTH
