Inkscape to SCAL
I am extremely new to SCAL and saw a great tutorial online on wordbooks but the person who did this used inkscape and the layout size in inkscape is the same as the mat 12x12 so how can I create a 12x12 sized layout in inkscape so I can see how it looks in SCAL

Try this tutorial, but you might want to make your default page 11.4x11.4 since none of the programs use the full mat. http://dan99.blogspot.com/2009/01/video ... capes.html
