Negative size values when importing svg??

Im trying to import into scal an svg that I had created in a photoshop program and turned into an svg in inkscape. I have done this numerous times before and had no problems now all of a sudden when i import the svg nothing is displayed on the mat and the size values are negative. Ive tried all sorts of resizing in inkscape and photoshop. I have my default inkscape set at inches and this file is reading at a 5x7 size so im totally perplexed as to why scal isnt reading it. I took a screen shot to show you the property values that i get after importing the svg. Anyone ever see this before?

JamieLea - I had this exact same thing happening - here is HeatherM's response and it worked perfectly for me. I also noticed that Heather put a tutorial on inkscape up on her blog today that I am going to work through so I can better understand HOW this stuff happens!
