HELP! Stops Cutting!

I need some help! I have a mac. I am just trying to cut basic words with my fonts. Every SINGLE time my cricut starts to cut, it gets half way through the word, and then just stops. The "progress bar" gets half way and stops moving, saying "checking mat..." and then it freezes both my computer and my cricut. Arg... any one have any ideas??

That sometimes happens to me, especially if I'm trying to do shadowing. I've learned that if I use shadows higher than size 2, I always just cut the letters one at a time. It's a pain but much better than getting frustrated with having it stop in the middle of a cut!

I don't have an explanation as to 'why' it does that.......anyone else??????
