Help with simple issue - sorry manage to delete my last post

Apologies to the two people that replied when I said I was unable to convert the letter U in Bookman Old Style into an SVG with the latest version of Inkscape.

Following the instructions to the letter no matter what I do by adding the text or bringing it in from a PDF and tracing path to object there is no way I can preview it and therefore create a double letter to be able to save as SVG.

One person suggested creating it straight from SCal (I have the oldest version) which I hadn't considered, stupidly, so I could download the font.

The other person said that it was relevant the SCal version I was using as rather than going the path / object route, the text would need to be ungrouped. I wanted to know if that applied when it was 1 letter of text only?

Will try not to delete post next time!
