The only way to use the current Design Studio and SCAL is to keep
switching the firmware on your Cricut between the old 1.1/2.1 and the
newer 1.3/2.3.
You can install both the old and new Design Studio on your computer at
the same time (just install them into different folders)
and then do the firmware update from whatever version you need at the
time. It is not the most convenient solution, but is the current
workaround for now.

Thanks for posting that Beanie! It's great to hear something from Todd. I don't have the latest version of DS and don't even use the old version, so I don't really have problems with SCAL since I haven't updated the firmware. There are a lot of people here that will benefit from your post, no doubt. TY

Looks like I might just have to go out and get another Cricut and update the new one and leave the other one and mark is SCAL and just go between the two.
I am not going to be messing back and forth with filmware every time I want to use my Cricut and SCAL.

Re: This just in from Todd
I get the part about saving a copy of firmware to another folder, but how do you actually switch back and forth the firmware on the cricut machine when you want to use SCAL. Is there a way to tell the Cricut to go to a certain folder to get the firmware? I realize that this is a temporary fix, but I'm confused as to how to even make this temporary fix work. Could someone provide some detailed step by step directions as to how to do what Todd said. Thanks in advance.

Re: This just in from Todd
So glad something has been figured out. But I actually fixed mine.
I went and bought a used cricut ( a friend of mine wanted to sell hers) and I use the SCAL software on my laptop and the DS on my desktop.....it is a little unhandy but I will take it until something else comes out. I can still use the older version of the DS on my laptop, just can't use any of the new cart....but I only have 2.
Thanks for the info.

I didn't know you that you shouldn't update the newer version of DS and now I can't use SCAL. I downloaded the older version of DS, but how do you switch from the newer version to the older version to use SCAL? I downloaded it in another folder. Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thank You!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't actually love to spend money (LOL) I just don't want to have to be bothered with contantly changing it. (I am a bit computer illiterate and I go for the easiest thing to do to solve the problem!) I am actually a bit of a tight wad.
I am saving for another machine and I am hoping that there will be a SCAL update before I get enough saved!
