Doesn't eCal have a setting for vinyl? I use the number one setting and then set the material setting for whatever I am cutting - no problems.

I think your best bet is to look at the tutorials. They are very helpful. I'm thinking of running the tutorials on the desktop and then following along on my laptop that has Scal2 on it. BTW, I LOVE Lexington area.

That's a real bummer. I purchased mine from ScrappingTable.com and it came in a DVD case and even that had some bubble wrap in it. Good for you that Craft Edge is making good.
