Despite having the words marked weld, you also need to overlap your letters , if you hit preview (I believe that is what it is) you will be able to see where it will cut prior to cutting and see that the word will be welded.

This post is very interesting. I have not upgraded to Snow leopard yet; however, I keep getting the trial has expired also. I have not done anything to the computer to warrant this.
